SAVE THE UW LIBRARIES!

COME TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS MEETING

THURSDAY MAY 28TH

KANE HALL 110, 1-3PM

(Rally to begin in Red Square at 12:30)

TELL THE BOARD OF REGENTS CLOSING LIBRARIES AND RESTRICTING HOURS WILL HURT STUDENTS AND FACULTY!

ACCORDING TO PROPOSED BUDGET MODELS PASSED BY THE UW ADMINISTRATION, THE LIBRARIES WILL HAVE TO CUT 12% OF ITS BUDGET (OR APPROX. $3.7 MILLION). THIS WILL RESULT IN THE ‘CONSOLIDATION’ (READ: CLOSURE) OF UP TO SIX LIBRARY BRANCHES, LAYOFF OF STAFF MEMBERS, CANCELLATION OF 1818 JOURNAL SUBSCRIPTIONS, SUSPENSION OF PRESERVATION EFFORTS AND RESTRICTION OF LIBRARY OPERATING HOURS. AS IT STANDS NOW ODEGAARD MAY SUSPEND ITS 24 HOUR SERVICE AND OTHER MAJOR LIBRARIES MAY CLOSE AT 5PM DURING THE WEEK AND BE CLOSED DURING THE WEEKEND. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

ACCORDING TO THE UW ANTI-BUDGET CUTS COALITION’S ALTERNATIVE BUDGET, A $150,000 CAP ON ADMINISTRATIVE SALARIES (NOT INCLUDING INSTRUCTORS) WOULD AFFECT 150 PEOPLE AND PROVIDE $3.6 MILLION. IN OTHER WORDS IT WOULD SAVE THE LIBRARIES!

JOIN THE ABC COALITION AND DEMAND THE BOARD OF REGENTS RECONSIDER THE PROPOSED BUDGET.

For more information contact the ABC Coalition: abccoalitionuw@gmail.com. We have weekly meetings every Thursday at 6pm in Parrington Hall, Room. 206.
